What Our CLINical USERS SAY

I thoroughly enjoyed participating and I highly recommend it to colleagues with or without injuries.
Sarah
My joints felt more supple at the end of class and it was enjoyable.
Jon
A really enjoyable way to add to my shoulder rehab that allows exercise under relaxation.
Kate
Two of my Physio colleagues used them with a patient who has had a severe TBI and is very weak they said the glove was brilliant - he was able to access his extensor muscle groups, whereas when he uses resistance bands with handles, flexor groups tend to take over.
Neuro Physio
I have used them with a couple of patients in supine who do not have great grip strength to add in resistance doing some Pilates based exercises and that has worked really well. Much quicker to place the glove on and loop round the foot then trying to fiddle about tying bands etc.
Neuro Physio
As an incomplete tetraplegic with compromised and limited hand function and grip relying on ‘Active Hands’ up to this point for any resistance based upper body activity, I found that they were much easier to put on independently, much more like putting on my pushing gloves!

FAQS

What is Resistance Pilatchi?

Resistance Pilatchi is a unique movement system that blends the controlled precision of Pilates with the flowing, mindful movements of Tai Chi, all while incorporating resistance bands to enhance strength, stability, and coordination. This fusion creates a practice that is both dynamic and restorative, challenging the body while promoting fluid, natural movement.

Now seen as a ‘Reformer in a Bag,’ Resistance Pilatchi is its own discipline—not just another resistance band workout. The system utilises specially designed bands that attach directly to the hands and feet, allowing for greater control, fluid movement, and improved muscle engagement compared to traditional resistance bands. It’s a highly effective training method on its own but also serves as an excellent tool to complement and improve your current Pilates practice.

Originally developed by a physiotherapist to support clients struggling with neurological conditions and grip issues after traumatic injuries, the system was designed to help rebuild strength, movement patterns, and body awareness in a way that traditional resistance training could not. Over time, it became clear that the mindfulness element of the practice played a crucial role in recovery and overall well-being, leading to the holistic approach we see today. Learn more about our story here.

Unlike standard resistance training, Resistance Pilatchi enhances proprioception (body awareness), retrains movement patterns, and builds functional strength—all while reducing strain on the joints. Whether you’re recovering from injury, looking to refine your Pilates practice, or simply searching for a low-impact, high-benefit way to train, Resistance Pilatchi offers a powerful, accessible solution

Resistance Pilatchi exercises focus on controlled, full-body movements that strengthen muscles, improve balance, and enhance flexibility. These exercises often mimic Pilates & Tai Chi movements but are performed with resistance bands that allow for more freedom of movement and targeted engagement.

Exercises typically fall into three categories. The three pillars of Pilatchi.

  1. CALM (Controlled Active Low-Impact Movement) – Slow, mindful movements that emphasise mobility, posture, and breathing.
  2. MAT (Mat-Based Resistance Training) – Strength-based exercises replicating Pilates movements without reformer machines at home or in a studio.
  3. Aerobic (Dynamic & Functional Resistance Training) – Movements designed to enhance endurance, stability, and coordination through controlled resistance.

By engaging stabilising muscles and working against varying levels of resistance, these exercises promote functional strength, joint stability, and long-term movement efficiency.

There are three main themes that are unique about Resistance Pilatchi:

  1. Firstly, it has been designed by a physiotherapist who has wanted to share an idea on optimising the way we should move combining strength and mobility by changing the way we use resistance bands improving functional output. A Physio’s Approach remains part of this new brand.
  2. Secondly the resistance bands are much more versatile because they are secured to a glove and a foot strap which allows you the leverage and agility to move freely using your hands and feet rather than standing and holding onto bands with the risk of letting them go.
  3. Finally, the exercises are different because there are not many mobile exercises requiring slow and calming movement using time under tension to improve flexibility, mobility and balance whilst simultaneously applying resistance forces to get stronger on the move. The aerobic versions require the same versatility, but they lose the time under tension benefit, as they are quicker moves but with a faster beat of music requiring more cardiovascular input.

Traditional resistance bands are designed to be gripped, which can create uneven tension and reduce movement control. While you can use standard resistance bands, they don’t provide the same level of secure attachment, movement freedom, or proprioceptive feedback as Resistance Pilatchi.

Resistance Pilatchi is specifically designed to:

  • Distribute tension evenly across the hands and feet, reducing joint strain.
  • Improve movement mechanics by eliminating grip dependence.
  • Enhance core stability by requiring balanced, controlled movements.

Attaching regular bands to straps may provide some resistance, but it won’t offer the same dynamic, connected, and functional movement experience that Resistance Pilatchi provides.

The angle of pull determines how effectively muscles are engaged during resistance-based movement. Traditional resistance training often relies on fixed anchor points (such as weights or machines), whereas Resistance Pilatchi uses a mobile resistance system that works with the body’s natural movement patterns.

  • Enhanced Muscle Engagement – The correct angle optimises tension, ensuring muscles are activated efficiently.
  • Reduced Strain – Poor resistance angles can lead to unbalanced muscle activation, joint stress, or ineffective workouts.
  • Functional Strength – Proper angles replicate real-life movement patterns, improving strength, stability, and mobility in daily activities.

Because Resistance Pilatchi bands move with you, they allow for a natural, flowing resistance experience that supports better posture, control, and overall movement quality.
